Over one hundred local winemakers, vignerons, and representatives from the tourism industry gathered this morning at Tyrrell’s Wines to partake in the Hunter Valley Vintage Smoking Ceremony, led by local Wannaruah elder, Uncle Warren.
Chris Tyrrell, CEO of Tyrrell’s Wines has been elected as the new President of the Hunter Valley Wine & Tourism Association (HVWTA), replacing Stuart Hordern, Senior Winemaker at Brokenwood, who stands down after his two-year term.

After challenging 2021 and 2022 vintages from La Nina weather patterns and significant flooding in the Hunter Valley in July 2022. Resulting from 300mm of rain in four days. Vintage 2023 was shaping up as another wet and difficult season.
