Unruly Wines
Unruly Wines is a single-vineyard, small-batch winery in the Broke Fordwich corner of the Hunter Valley, where Cas and Fred have built their life and their label across 63 acres, nine of them under vine. Every grape is grown here, hand-tended through the seasons on a single patch of earth that gives the wines their character and their sense of place. There's a quiet obsession behind it all. Fred, a winemaker with a background in geology, understands how soil and stone shape what ends up in the glass, while Cas leads the vineyard and all those other background tasks. Together they work in small volumes, crafting wines you won't find on a supermarket shelf, each one carrying the story of the season that made it.
The range moves gently from sparkling through to crisp, textural whites and into reds with depth and warmth, all built around the varieties that thrive in this pocket of Broke Fordwich. These are wines made for slowing down: for long lunches, golden-hour dinners, and evenings that deserve a little ceremony. While there's no cellar door just yet, the experience comes to you. Private tastings can be booked and enjoyed in the comfort of your Hunter Valley accommodation, an intimate way to meet the wines and the people behind them.
If you love discovering the places most people drive past, Unruly is the hidden gem worth seeking out, in the heart of Broke Fordwich.
