Silkman Wines

Liz & Shaun Silkman kicked off Silkman Wines in 2013—and what an amazing few years it has been! There can’t be many brands that take on every other winery in Australia in their second year and come out on top. In 2015, the Silkman Reserve Chardonnay did just that, beating 600 other wines from all over Australia to win the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge.

Silkman Wines was also named as the top Hunter Valley winery in the Huon Hooke's Top 50 wineries of Australia and named as one of James Halliday's Wine companion the 10 Best New Wineries in Australia. They won best Semillon at the 2014 NSW Wine Awards, Top Gold at the Hunter Valley Wine Show for their 2014 Reserve Shiraz, and countless other medals around the country. Shaun was nominated as Rising Star of the Year at the 2016 Hunter Legends Awards and Liz was awarded 2016 Hunter Valley Winemaker of the Year (for the second time). Liz was also dux of the Len Evans Tutorial.

Yet Silkman Wines is not even their day job. Both Liz and Shaun work at First Creek Wines; Liz serves as Chief Winemaker, making wine for nearly 30 brands, and Shaun works as Chief Operating Officer, another incredibly demanding job. They also have two young girls and a baby boy, which does make you wonder when they sleep!

But it is easy to see the dedication and attention to detail in their wines. From bold reds to zesty whites, every wine they produce is made from outstanding-quality fruit to present the unique character of the Hunter Valley region and its individual vineyards. The quantity of each wine is dictated by quality rather than demand.

The Silkman Wines ethos is to deliver a range of wines that showcase the unique characteristics of both the Hunter Valley and individual vineyards. We invite you to explore the selection of delicious Silkman Wines included in our collection at Wine House Hunter Valley.
