Selective Novocastrian based architectural firm Bourne Blue Architects was issued a brief focusing on the ultimate couples retreat with a dedication in supporting it’s environment, and that carries through in every detail.
Owners of The Woods Pokolbin Anne Marie and Ewen Cameron felt a developing market in elaborate engagements, generous elopements, microwedding and movement of couples simply recoiling and spoiling themselves deserved more dedication. And so, emerged the concept of Blackwood, 17 months in the planning and build, every detail of this guesthouse boasts opulence, seclusion and style. A private jetty over a dam, a heated signature plunge pool from Australian Plunge Pool (yes that’s right the same as the 2017’s Block’s Ten Tonne Tessie!) Sleek Brodware copper tapware featured throughout, a soaking tub with a view, central wooden fireplace and space….so much space.
Every detail of the guesthouse has been a part of a very mindful process, high quality fit out and furnishings were never negotiated on however wherever possible that were also sourced locally. From the excavation works, construction team, the lighting selection and floor finishing’s right through to a resident photographer, local artisan amenities and even Hunter Valley Source boutique coffee and wine suppliers.
Owner Anne Marie Cameron comments “We hope Blackwood provides couples with a sanctuary feel, giving them a memorable place where they come to spend special occasions throughout their lives, a place where they come to spoil themselves, together.”
This recent minimalist / intimate wedding trend has only just recently taken a steady foot in our current wedding and travel market. With the increasing cost of weddings, it has been identified that cutting out the surplus and focusing on reigning in guest lists and outdated traditions in favour for experience, value and splurging on what really matters. Couples travel in general has also been a hot topic with recent studies showing that travel and shared experiences with loved ones is on the rise and becoming more and more favourable of expense over material possessions.
Since it’s launch merely 6 weeks ago, the Woods has received several enquiries from couples who are looking for an all-inclusive retreat, to the point where the owners have appointed a passionate “Concierge” who will assist with planning a luxury stay, from private yoga sessions on the jetty, to Helicopter flights being scheduled to land and take off onsite right through to marquee hire and catering arrangements for groups large and small.
