To celebrate his 30th anniversary as a solo artist, Jimmy Barnes has announced a special a day on the green national tour.
The tour coincides with the release of his ‘30/30 Anniversary’ album which sees Jimmy re-recording 15 of his biggest hits as collaborations with some of his favourite artists; Keith Urban, John Farnham, Bernard Fanning, Journey, Little Steven Van Zandt, Shihad, Tina Arena, Baby Animals and Jon Stevens plus more.
The Living End, who feature on the album’s first single - a blistering new version of ‘Lay Down Your Guns’ released today - are the special guests on all shows.
The a day on the green tour will take in wineries around the country commencing on Saturday November 1 at Robert Oatley Vineyards, Mudgee NSW ending on Saturday December 20 at Rochford Wines, Yarra Valley VIC.
A 30th anniversary needs a special celebration, and to that end, these will be concerts with a difference. Part of the show will feature the Jimmy Barnes Greatest Hits Spinning Wheel, made up of 30 classic Barnes tracks. Fans will be invited onstage to spin the Wheel, deciding which song the band will then perform and thereby helping to create new sets at each performance. How much fun will that be!
The Baby Animals, You Am I, Ian Moss, Troy Cassar-Daley, Mahalia Barnes and Nick Barker – some of whom have recorded duets with Jimmy for the album - will play variously across the shows. Full line-ups and tour dates below.
The 30th anniversary tour and the new album (released August 29) are fitting celebrations of the extraordinary contribution Jimmy Barnes has made to both the recording and live performance fields. Jimmy has released 14 studio albums in the past 30 years. Nine of those albums have reached number one – more than any other Australian artist.
“This year is so important for me, so I wanted this tour handled by people who love music and who care about the tour and a day on the green do it the best,” Jimmy says. “They run it really well and they know how to look after an audience. I’ve done a lot of them over the years and Cold Chisel has done them too. It’s such a great way to get to play to the public.
“Also I’m so excited about working with The Living End because they’re just so bloody good. They’re so ferocious as a band. They’re friends, they’re not really a support act – it’s a bill to make it the best show. So I’m going to have to work really hard, and I love that. We’re going to have a great time.”
