Boost for tourism as Hunter Valley Wine & Beer Festival celebrates bumper 10th anniversary
It was a very special occasion at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley resort last weekend, as the Hunter Valley Wine & Beer Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Over 50 wine, beer and local food providers were out in force on a beautiful sunny winter day to entertain the crowds.
Local operators presenting included many of the Hunter Valley’s most renowned wineries, along with up-and-coming local wineries such as The Parched Crow Wine Co & Wild Ren Wines.
Established brewers such as Six String Brewing Co. and Block n Tackle Brewery were among the premium breweries exhibiting at the Festival.
In between tastings (which also included local cheese and other artisan products), festival-goers enjoyed entertainment from well-known local musicians including Ella Powell and Fahrenheit, foods from a wide range of providores, and the opportunity to relax in the spacious grounds of the Crowne Plaza.
Once again, the Festival raised funds for the local Rural Fire Service, with almost $2000 raised on the day collected through fundraising activities.
Festival organiser Jenny Farrell said that fine weather and a great line-up of participants ensured a highly successful 10th anniversary.
“Everyone had a great time,” she said. “The Festival is now a very popular fixture in the Hunter Valley event calendar, and we were very pleased once again to get such great support from the region’s best wine, beer and food operators.
“The Hunter Valley community has done it tough over the past few years with bushfires, then Covid and floods, so this was a tremendous opportunity for the community to rally together and stage a really fun and successful event.
”The origins of the Hunter Valley Wine Festival go back to the early 1980s, when Valley legends Brian McGuigan and Murray Tyrrell were showcasing local wine, but the festival ended in 1983. It took another thirty years for the event to be revived by Dr Jerry Schwartz, who has ensured that local wines, beer, food and entertainers receive a prominent platform. The event now attracts visitors from across the State, providing a real boost to Hunter Valley tourism."
