PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Cellar Door of the Year announced for 2020 Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards

It would be easy to say that 2020 has gone down as a year that will not be forgotten. From extensive drought to devastating bushfires and smoke taint, to the onset of a global pandemic bringing a vibrant industry to a halt, it is safe to say that everyone has their own story to tell.

Due to Covid-19 government restrictions, the Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association was unfortunately forced to cancel their 14th annual Hunter Valley Legends & Wine Industry Awards gala event. However, the silver lining to this was that judging for the Australian Wine Selectors Hunter Valley 2019 Cellar Door of the Year award was conducted just prior to Covid shutdown.

The public perception and profile of the Hunter Valley wine industry is influenced by experiences at the region’s many cellar doors. Sponsored once again by Wine Selectors, The Cellar Door of the Year award recognises excellence at a Hunter Valley Cellar Door.

To be eligible for entry the cellar door must show exemplary performance in several areas, most importantly, the discernible promotion of Hunter Valley wines as well as active involvement in wine tourism, industry activities and events.

The finalists in this much coveted category included many familiar and much-loved Hunter Cellar Doors including Boydell's, Briar Ridge Vineyard, Brokenwood Wines, Gartelmann Wines, Glandore Estate, Margan Family Wines, Saddler's Creek Wines, Thomas Wines & Wine House Hunter Valley.

As natural story-tellers, cellar door staff must exhibit exemplary wine knowledge of the Hunter Valley as well as the rich history of the region, and demonstrate the ability to sell the overall Hunter Valley brand. Each finalist was assessed by an independent mystery shopper based on Cellar Door presentation, Cellar Door team, Cellar Door Sales and Online presence (Social & Digital).

At a ‘live’ announcement on Thursday evening, the Hunter Valley Wine Industry Association was pleased to announce the 2020 Cellar Door of the Year Award as Glandore Estate Wines.

Glandore Estate Wines was established in 2005 following the procurement of the original Brokenback chardonnay vineyard on Broke Rd. From day one the aim of Glandore Estate wines has been to produce wines of great character, regionality and style from the traditional varieties known in the Hunter Valley. This has been achieved through the strict selection of some of the Hunter Valley’s most distinguished old vine vineyards. Thinking out side of the box the team at Glandore have also started to forge ahead adding new and exciting varieties to their Hunter Valley range such as their superb Tempranillo.

Glandore’s winemaking style is all hands on, from hand picking right through to the hand operated basket press. Quality without compromise, and a winery that is designed specifically for small batch production of the very best parcels of fruit.

Glandore Estate Wines are located at 1595 Broke Road Pokolbin and are open 7 days a week for tasting and sales.
