POKOLBIN
Pokolbin has so much to offer it's hard to know where to begin. Let's start with history.
Pokolbin is the oldest continuous wine region in Australia, with a history dating back to the early 1800s when the first grapes were planted. That means tasting heritage wines from some of the oldest vines in Australia is at your fingertips. Obligatory, really.
How about a round of golf? Pokolbin has several top courses, so we're way above par in that regard too (sorry about the pun). Oh, and don't be surprised if you see a few of the region's leading identities out enjoying 18 holes - it's their second home.
Restaurants? Check. Everything from one of the State's finest down to relaxed cafes and snack places. And a lot of the cellar doors have dining options too. The one thing they have in common is that the food is downright tasty.
If you're looking for something different how about an early morning balloon flight over the vines? And if you're into concerts then Pokolbin is the centre of concert activity outside Sydney - the list of performers is a virtual who's who of the music industry.
Then, of course, you'll need time to visit a spa, or maybe one of the craft breweries - it might be Wine Country but make no mistake, we enjoy a cold brew on a hot day as much as anyone. If spirits are more your thing there's a distillery you should put on your list.
And have we mentioned one of the State's most highly regarded exhibition gardens right at the heart of everything?
When we say you're spoilt for choice, we aren't kidding. We suggest you sit down, sip on that glass of Hunter Shiraz, and work out where to start.
Decisions, decisions. Sometimes having a break can be hard work.
