Oil + Tempera Masterclass with Hanna Kay @ Singleton Arts + Cultural Centre

An exploration of traditional Old Master painting techniques using tempera in combination with oil paint.

This workshop offers a focused introduction to traditional Old Master painting techniques, exploring the use of tempera in combination with oil paint. Participants will learn about the historical layering process that underpins this method.

Over two hours, the workshop will concentrate on practical knowledge and hands-on experimentation. Participants will be guided through the preparation of tempera and several traditional painting mediums, gaining insight into how and why these materials are used. Working on small prepared panels, participants will have the opportunity to test techniques and observe how different layers and materials interact.

All materials will be supplied, including prepared panels, tempera ingredients, and oil-based mediums. This ensures accessibility for artists who may not normally work with oil paint and avoids the need to purchase specialist materials for a one-off experience.

This workshop is ideal for artists curious about historical painting methods and material processes, or those seeking to deepen their understanding of classical techniques.

*Egg whites will be used in this workshop.
