June Long Weekend in the Hunter Valley

The June Long weekend is the perfect time to pack your bags and escape to the Hunter Valley for a little bit of exploration and adventure. From June 11 until 13, make the most of the fresh days and cool nights with your partner, your family or a group of friends and take the time to reconnect over memorable experiences this Winter in Wine Country. Whether you’re eager to unwind and recharge your batteries with a glass of red next to a cozy open fire pit, or see the sun rise over the region from the heights of a hot air balloon, there is something for everyone to enjoy. With only three days to do so, it’s hard to fit it all in, so to make it simple we have handpicked some of the top activities and events happening across the region.


WHAT’S ON


Smoke in Broke
The annual Smoke in Broke event will return this June long weekend with more fun, more food, more competitors, and more BBQ as part of the 2022 Hunter Valley Wine & Food Festival. Experience every BBQ lover’s dream... a weekend of BBQ, beer, wine, live music, and more. This event is great for the whole family, held over a massive two days, so dust of your dancing boots and take the road less travelled out to Broke Fordwich to discover this event part of the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Festival. 

Beer Birthday at Ironbark Brewhouse
Ironbark Hill Brewhouse are inviting all to help celebrate their Beer Birthday on Sunday 12th June. Every Beer paddle purchase goes in the draw to win a case, food and beer pairings, menu specials, lucky door prizes and more. Brewery open from 10am until 5pm with food served between 11am and 3:30pm. All are welcome and bookings are strongly encouraged - info@pdwines.com.au

Margan Barrel Hall Sale
The annual Barrel Hall Sale is back at Margan’s. Unearth classic museum reserves, quality end-of-line finds as well as some drink now bargains. The June Long Weekend is a busy time in the Valley so plan ahead and reserve your table in the restaurant or cellar door now.

Churrasco in the Vineyards
All you can eat Brazilian BBQ is coming to the Hunter Valley! The BBQ will be lit from 12pm with bookings every half an hour until 2pm. Your ticket includes ten different cuts of meat, eight different sides, two deserts of BBQ pineapple and banana fritters, plus a drink on arrival (beer, wine, cider or soft drink). Offering the best of MEET restaurant cocktails, and Dalwood wines both by the bottle and by the glass.

Handmade in the Hunter Markets
Discover the variety and quality of goods grown, made and crafted by Hunter Valley artisans. The markets are held in the picturesque gardens of award-winning Sobels Wines and allow the authenticity of handmade produce and wares, and the talent of Hunter Valley artisans to shine. Visit us on Saturday 11 of the June long weekend.

Cracker Night in Wollombi
Step back to a time when things were more laid back and those nights around a bonfire, where still to this day, they spark fond memories of a time gone by and you tell these stories to your children and grandchildren. Wollombi Tavern would like to invite you to our digs, so you can recreate those memories with your family and our fireworks spectacular, bonfire and the added bonus of live music from Andy Abra & The Big River Band.

 

Behind the Wine with Ash. 

Do you have plans for the long weekend? If you do, cancel them stat! If you don’t, well you’re in luck. For one day only, our wondrous winemaker, Ash Horner, will be hosting a wine tasting experience like no other. Behind the Wine with Ash will take you behind the scenes through the boutique winery to see first-hand how our award-winning wines are made. Get the special treatment with front-row seats in the barrel room, a cheeky cheese plate from local producers and tastings of 8 delicious wines. Some of which you can sample straight from the barrel. Also, it’s your chance to put Ash on the spot and ask him anything you want. Anything at all. (Don’t be thrown by the flannel, he’s quite knowledgeable, our ol’ Ash.) As a parting gift, a Horner Wines branded Riedel wine glass so you can sip in style from home. So round up your mates and book a road trip to the Hunter Valley this June long weekend. Behind the Wine with Ash is an experience not to be missed!

So, prime your appetite for some serious feasting between exploring this long weekend at some of our many award-winning cafes & restaurants. And even better, the long weekend is a holiday - so calories don’t count! We encourage you to book ahead to make sure you can secure a table as some venues book out on busy days and have altered hours over holiday weekends
