At Stonehurst, the fifth generation Heslop family remain committed to sustainable agriculture. The vines are grown on organic principles - no insecticides or pesticides are used. Their elevated trellis captures sunlight and airflow enhancing fruit quality and flavours. Vines are hand pruned, and all fruit handpicked.
The results of the labour of love are award winning wines from a very healthy vineyard. Try their Methode Champagnoise, Hunter Boutique Wine Show Trophy winner! And also their Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Chambourcin and fortified wines.
Stonehurst welcome you to enjoy a wine tasting at their sandstone Cellar Door - make a day of it and explore the Wollombi Valley Wine Trail! Stay in a vineyard cottage, relax, rest, enjoy!
While this historic property has been in this family’s ownership for the last 70 years, the first land grants were to two Napoleonic War veterans – each of 100 acres – in the 1820’s.
In the past this property was renowned for its orchards. Today the same rich soils and temperate climate support the vineyards, and grazing for cattle and deer.
"No effort squeezing a few top drops out of Stonehurst". "…the tedium is often broken by a brilliant wine when I least expect it or by the wines of a little known (to me) producer that suddenly start to establish a pattern. Owners Daryl and Phillipa Heslop have every right to feel pleased with themselves. The Hunter Valley has always been especially challenging and these Stonehurst wines answer this challenge."
Stonehurst are also proud hosts of 'Sculpture in the Vineyards' - an exhibition of 60+ large-sale outdoor works, held annually throughout November.
