It’s no secret that wine and food is an irresistible duo. At many cellar doors in the Hunter Valley you’re likely to find yourself snacking on a decadent cheese board during your wine tasting, and for the sweet tooth, there are many irresistible chocolate and wine pairings. However, if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary, we’ve rounded up 9 unique food and wine pairings that go beyond the humble cheeseboard to connect food, flavour and wine.

1. Savannah pie and wine tasting

Nothing says winter warmer quite like a wine tasting with gourmet pies fresh from the oven, and at Savannah Estate that’s exactly what’s on offer. In this unique, must-try experience you’ll receive four mini pies crafted by their in-house pastry chef, each with its own rich and unique fillings and Savannah Estate wine to match. 2. Brokenwood 'Match' experience

Hosted by the 2025 Hunter Valley Cellar Door of the Year, Brokenwood's 'Match' experience is made for food and wine lovers. Set in the architecturally striking cellar door the experience combines six Brokenwood wines matched with bite-sized canapés from their on-site restaurant. Known for their premium wines and loyal fanbase, you’ll get to try some of their most popular wines, whilst also enjoying the flavours of their restaurant. Be sure to advise of dietary requirements in advance, on the day dietary alterations cannot be accommodated. Available Thursday-Tuesday.

3. Hungerford Hill epic tasting experience

Designed for the foodie at heart, the Epic Tasting Experience at Hungerford Hill brings the best of food and wine into one tasting. This guided experience pairs a selection of Hungerford Hill’s premium wines with bite-sized dishes from the acclaimed two-hatted Muse Restaurant, served as a curated mini-degustation. Throughout the experience, you'll gain insight into how the flavours and textures of each item in the mini-degustation have been designed to complement the wine.

4. Saddler's Creek Alessandro & Aperitivo wine and food pairing

Designed around the European aperitivo tradition, where wine and food is enjoyed with conversation and socializing, this tasting experience combines six wines from Saddler’s Creek’s Alessandro Reserve range with small, elegant dishes to match. You’ll enjoy flavours like creamy goat’s cheese crostini and prawn with citrus butter to pair with Semillon, roast chicken rillette with Chardonnay, charred lamb kofta with Shiraz, mushroom and thyme arancini with Merlot and rare roast beef with horseradish with Cabernet Sauvignon.

5. Latitude 32 Wines dumping and wine pairing

Head to Latitude 32 Wines for their signature wine and dumpling pairing. Enjoy five unique dumplings, ranging from the classic prawn and vegetable to the playful cheeseburger dumpling, each thoughtfully matched to wines from their single vineyard range. Hosted in a relaxed cellar door with scenic views of the vineyard this tasting offers a playful twist on the traditional tasting,

6. Thomas Wines canapé and wine pairing

Visit the Thomas Wines team for their new Savour Experience and elevate your palate with every sip and bite. The four perfectly paired canapés use seasonal local ingredients, expertly matched to four premium Thomas Wines, to showcase the diversity that can be achieved with the Hunter Valley's signature varietals, Semillon and Shiraz. This is canape and wine pairing experience is only available to book Wednesday to Saturday, 12-4pm

7. Boydell’s Tapas and Wine pairing

Discover the art of wine and food pairing with Boydell’s. Enjoy a relaxed tasting experience featuring three premium Boydell’s wines perfectly matched with three bite-sized dishes from their seasonal menu. Available Thursday to Sunday, 11am – 4pm. Extend your experience by reserving a table for lunch or dinner afterward.

8. Ridgeview Wine and Food pairing

Enjoy a wine and food pairing overlooking the vines at Ridgeview. Known for their commitment to estate-grown produce and handcrafted wines, this experience combines three small plates from their Harvest Restaurant with RidgeView's boutique, small-batch wines. 9. Pokolbin Estate Puff and Pour tasting
