My tip to living the good life: a bit of afternoon delight!

I remember the 1970s hit song 'Afternoon Delight' creating a bit of a sensation due to its provocative lyrics about daytime lovemaking sessions. Fast forward to 2018 and the current Hunter Valley ad campaign has tongues wagging too as it asks viewers when they last made love in the afternoon.

So do Hunter Valley locals have any naughty confessions? You bet. They love a bit of afternoon delight!

One of their fave afternoon activities is treating themselves to a diet-busting afternoon tea. We have oodles of places where locals tuck into decadent and delicious tiers of fluffy buttermilk scones, petit fours and a steaming-hot pots of tea. As it's the Hunter, wine is often on the menu too. So, if you have a hankering for a shameless splurge try Sabor Dessert Bar, Two Fat Blokes Gourmet Kitchen and Gemelli Estate.

We also like to linger longer than most over lunch, making a leisurely lunch stretch all the way to dinner. Like the Hunter Valley Wine Show Celebrations Lunch. It kicks off at 12.30pm but everyone clears their schedules for the entire day as it's a bit of an endurance event with free-flowing wines (gold-medal winning wines at that). Yep, you really need to have staying power to last all afternoon.

But some days you just don't have the stamina for a full-on lunch-to-dinner affair. Having a quickie while nibbling on tasty titbits watching the sun set over the craggy Brokenback mountain range can be just as good. Wine Country sunsets are breathtakingly beautiful and locals love savouring the seductive flavours of a Hunter Valley wine with a side of sunset views. You can too at the Brokenback Bar @ Estate Tuscany, Matilda Bay Brewhouse @ Hunter Valley Resort and Cypress Lakes Bistro & Bar – all top sundowner spots.

Another Hunter habit that's hard to beat is a good Sunday session to end the weekend. Sunny Sunday arvos means music with some mates and a few bevvies too. Whether it's a sun-drenched beer garden with a live band or a bar with vineyard views and a smooth soundtrack, #SundayFunday is guaranteed. You can check out some popular music spots here. And who can resist slipping between the sheets after a busy morning for an afternoon siesta? Spooning while you're snoozing is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up and shouldn't just be a random act of guilty pleasure. Netflix and chill? That's up to you!
