Undercliff Winery & Gallery
Opening Hours: Open 7 days
Undercliff vineyard was established in 1990 with Semillon and Shiraz varieties that thrive in the rich alluvial soils. An olive grove was also established. More recently other grape varieties have been planted such as Chambourcin, Muscat and Chardonnay.
The Undercliff Estate of over 100 acres was settled in 1847 and is nestled in a picturesque valley 1.5 kms from Historic Wollombi Village that is about 1.5 hours from Sydney and Newcastle. The vineyard has about 10 acres under vine and is generally protected from extreme weather conditions by the surounding hills. The vineyard is lovingly maintained and nurtured by Michelle and David.
Undercliff Winery produces hand made premium wines on site in very limited quanities using fruit from our own vineyard. Under the guidance of our experienced winemaker, David Carrick we have won numerous awards throughout Australia for the unique wine styles. David and Peter hand make the wines on site.
As some of the older vintages are in limited quantities, we have retained these rare wines in limited release museum collection sets for the connoisseur or that special gift.
The gallery features oil paintings by Margaret Waterhouse and watercolours by Helen Fitzgerald and many local artists that are available for sale if you are quick! We are well known for our bird labels that were originally designed by Janet Luxton.
Undercliff Winery & Gallery is part of the Wollombi Valley Wine Trail and hold regular winemakers' dinners and is home of Sculpture in the Vineyards, a dynamic outdoor exhibition of large scale ssulptures held annually October to January - not to be missed!
Picnickers are welcome. Hunter Wine Helicopters fly in regularly for a gourmet picnic for that special occasion to celebrate with fine wine.
