This tranquil valley was settled in the 1830's during the convict construction of the Great North Road and grew into a bustling community. Prior to European settlement Koori Aboriginals used the river junction for thousands of years as a trade centre and a meeting place. Wollombi is dialect for the latter. Aboriginal rock carvings can be seen in many places one of them being Yango National Park.
 
The tranquility of the historic Wollombi Valley and its village renowned for its substantial 19th century sandstone and slab buildings and sandstone churches, quaint restaurants and the distinction of being the home of Dr. Jurds Jungle Juice at Wollombi Tavern are evident to all who visit.
 
From Sydney, Wollombi is only 90 minutes from the start of the F3 Freeway. Turn off at the Calga/Peats Ridge exit (Tourist Route 33) and enjoy a beautiful and scenic drive alon the historic Great North road. Wollombi is only a short drive from Newcastle and the Central Coast.

February and March is the harvet season - hand picked grapes aare selected with care- visitors are welcome to assist!
