A Remembrance Day to Remember...

This year, the 11th November will be a day to remember for many, for reasons other than the remembrance of armed forces who have died in the line of duty since WW1. This Friday – 11/11/11-considered by some to be a lucky date, has been chosen by at least 15 couples who will tie-the-knot against the picturesque back drop of the Hunter Valley Wine Country.

Many Hunter Valley wedding venues and celebrants are preparing for an unprecedented number of couples who have chosen this significant date to get married. Many celebrants have multiple ceremonies in various locations throughout the day and some venues hosting up to 5 ceremonies and with one ceremony, going as far as commencing their ceremony at exactly 11.11am.

Venues and wedding suppliers say there was a strong interest by couples in the 11th November up to twelve months ago, suggesting that the decision for couples to marry on this significant date had a special meaning for those couples.

For one couple, in particular, getting married at Wollombi, the day takes on much greater significances in terms of the connection with Remembrance Day. The bride’s father who died around this time two years ago was a WW2 veteran from the United Kingdom, as well remembering her mother and the Groom’s father. Bride to be, Jackie, said “Being raised in the UK, where Remembrance Day is especially significant, with her father always making sure that the family honoured the minute silence”.

Another excited couple chose the 11/11/11 after having originally planned to marry on August 8th 2008, but the couple found out they were expecting their first child so the wedding plans were put on hold until, they realised earlier this year November 11th offered another auspicious date.

Hunter Valley Wine Country Tourism MICE, Travel Trade & Weddings Marketing Manager, Ruth Appleby said “No matter the date, a couple’s wedding date is always significant. This year we are fortunate that this auspicious date falls on a Friday, which underlines our drive towards encouraging couples hold their weddings on weekdays rather than the already popular weekend days.”
